"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing noise they make as they go by." - Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt
Ok, my apologies for the delay in awarding the last prize(s) - I really thought I had everything figured out ahead of time, but apparently I did not. I could ramble on, but everyone's been waiting too long already so without further ado...
You know, it's really frustrating sometimes to think you have all contingencies planned for and then have everything go wrong at the last minute. Well, not quite everything, but enough to give me a headache when all I want to do is spread some Douglas Adams love around. That and make good on the original plan to give away the posters and not sell them on eBay. (Although, eBay didn't exist when I was mailed the posters so perhaps I could have used that as a loophole...) But I digress..
Oh, and another thing... Twitter is pretty awesome. Sure, it has it's limitations, but all in all, it is a great tool and I've met a bunch of awesome people through it. Some of them are you folk. And if I haven't followed you already, I will! One of my goals in this was to meet new and interesting people who shared the same interest in an amazing author, so I hope I don't bore you too much and we have great conversations. Who knows, maybe I'll figure out something swanky to give away next year too? But yea, Twitter is pretty swell, so I hope you folk that signed up with it just to enter the contest stick around and give it a go - and not delete your account BEFORE the prize is awarded! (Looking at you @drakejared0, you were the first drawn, but your account is no more...) So finally, on to the final winners...
And I really will write some article about running contests on the different social media platforms, the tools used, and the lessons I learned this time around. If you don't see it within a month, you have my permission to start harassing me about it. Really. Sometimes I do need that kick in the pants to get something done... *OUCH*
"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams, Mostly Harmless
Okay, okay - so first off thanks to Hootsuite support and RetweetRank for getting me the data I needed. I really though I have everything figured out in advance and my plan was foolproof (see above). It was painful but the job got done. I compiled the list of people who retweeted the official entry tweets, alphabetized the names, and after drawing the now-deleted account (Ticket: 1993QATR3), I drew another number(Ticket: 1999URJAH) and the winner is: @EvanPrim! Congrats dude, I'll contact you for shipping info soon!
Now the second poster - I made a list of those that caught my attention and gave entries based on the level of attention. Now there was only ONE person who submitted something that met the "about guarantee" criteria, and it was still a random pull (Ticket: 1991BJJC6). But in the end she did win, so congrats to Google+ entrant Leah Bush (and @leahshrub on Twitter) who submitted the photo of her smacking Ghostcrawler on the back of his head for what he did to rogues in patch 5.3. Follow and circle her, she's new to both, so I assume she needs to be weened from Facebook. I'll be in touch for shipping info soon!
Again, I want to apologize for the confusion and delay in awarding these prizes - I'll be certain to plan better next time. Honestly, I wish I had enough to give them out to everyone! I appreciate feedback, so feel free to let me know what you think could have been done better, and other contest ideas. Speaking of next time, what do you think I should give away now that I'm out of posters?
Hope you all had as much fun as I did, and I'm glad to have met a bunch of new like-minded folk. :-)
